Jason Elstrott graduated from Louisiana State University’s College of Art and Design in 2001. Inspired by the tropical landscapes and beautiful beaches Jason moved to Costa Rica and created a series of watercolor paintings. The landscapes were done onsite in the Plein Air style. This often required working around bad weather and traveling over dangerous roads in order to return to the same scene several times to capture consistent lighting. The goal is to capture the energy of a scene in a way that is not possible with a photograph. For examples of the Costa Rica watercolor series visit www.paintingthecoast.com. Jason later moved back to the US in 2008 with his wife Gaby. Upon returning they drove from Miami Florida to Portland Oregon and many scenes along the way are documented in paintings found in this online gallery. Jason now lives near Portland Oregon with his wife Gaby and three kids.
